We are located at the entrance to the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. The lodge is situated four and a half hours north of Johannesburg/Pretoria.

From Johannesburg and Pretoria: – Take the N12 from Johannesburg and the N4 from Pretoria, past Witbank (Emalahleni) and Middelburg to Belfast. Turn onto the R540 at Belfast to Dullstroom and Lydenburg (Mashishing). When you come into Lydenburg (Mashishing) turn left onto the R36 to Origstad, travel through Origstad, travel straight past the R532 turn off, travel straight through the Abel Erasmus Pass, travel straight on the R36 through the Strijdom Tunnel, (the tunnel is 21 km from the R532 turn off). After the tunnel the road automatically changes to the R527 to Hoedspruit. Travel straight on this road for 24.5 km from the tunnel and then turn right onto the Jonkmanspruit /Driehoek Road D1803 (if you cross the Blyde River you have gone too far). There is a sign board that says Blyde River Canyon Lodge just before the bridge. Drive about 14 km and you will find a T- Junction, turn right and drive for 500m and we are on the right in the Blyde River Botanical Reserve. Turn right into the Blyde River Botanical Reserve and this leads to the Blyde River Canyon Lodge.

MEET THE TEAM

Blyde River Canyon Lodge offers the highest quality of accommodation, we provide superior service to our customers and our guests leave with unforgettable memories of their stay. Our experience and commitment to excellence contributes to the fact that we are one of the best lodges in the area.

VICKY MITTAN – OWNER

Vicky Mittan has Africa deep in her bones. Born in Kenya, often her family piled into their game vehicle and went off into the bush in the Serengeti and Amboseli. She is passionate about animals and when her father forbade her to ride horses, after a bad fall she went door to door to raise money to get herself back on the horse.

PORTIA FANKOMO – MANAGER

The moment you see Portia behind the desk at the Blyde River Canyon Lodge you know she runs things with a good portion of both grace and grit. What is hard to believe is that this elegant, well spoken young woman had to work in the fields picking litchis despite having graduated from high school with top honors.

BLYDE HILLSIDE HOUSE

Nestled beneath the breath-taking Drakensberg Mountains Blyde River Hillside House offers travellers a unique bush experience whilst soaking up the beauty of the natural surrounds. Set in the tranquil surroundings of a large landscaped garden which blends itself with its open lawn, large trees and backed by the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains. The property is situated along the majestic Panoramic Route of Mpumalanga/Limpopo Province, and is in close proximity to the entrance of the Blyde River Canyon and 30 minutes away from the Orpen gate of the Kruger National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES

The lodge itself is situated on an 85 HA fully game fenced, botanical nature reserve.

ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA

Recreational activities include lazing at the swimming pool or taking a relaxing stroll to the Blyde River. Savour the ambience of the bushveld under the canopy of ancient Jackalberry trees whose shade cascades over the natural lawn areas.
